Phoenix
For this project I put book pages in the background and then painted people and buildings on top. Then I painted a phoenix on top. Above the phoenix there is “999”, which is my angel number and it represents rebirth. The first layer is a stained brown canvas. I did this with water and acrylics. On top of this I glued on book pages from my favorite books. These books include “The Outsiders”, “Girl Interrupted”, “The Perks Of Being A Wallflower", and “Alice In Wonderland”. Then I added water color over top of the book pages so they looked older and worn. After this I used acrylic paint to paint buildings and people walking to the buildings in black and white. I then used acrylic again to paint orange, red, and yellow phoenix, which takes up the whole canvas. After this I used water color to make a fire/light effect around the phoenix, and I added "999” above the phoenix. At the end I used prisma color pencils to make the phoenix stand out. This art work is meant to represent me, and how I feel. The people and buildings are in black and white because they're boring. It represents the boring people just trying to fit in and follow the crowd. They go to their boring office jobs and waste their life away. That is the last thing that I want in life so I made a phoenix to represent me. Phoenix's are special and unique, they also represent rebirth and new beginnings, which is what I got when I moved to Texas. Before I moved I was like the people wasting their life and following the crowd, but after I moved I decided to be myself and stop wasting my life being someone I didn't like. The phoenix and the "999” represent this, and my goal is to show people that the best thing that you can do in life is be yourself. I really like this painting and I feel like I was able to get across what I wanted to get across.
Ghost Friends
This painting is called “Ghost Friends”. Its two people, dressed as ghosts with heart sunglasses, sitting on a window ledge. I made this painting using acrylics and I tried to incorporate different values of gray. I did the same for the tree in the background. This painting was inspired by a picture of my friend, Bell, and I. We went around our school, and took different pictures of us dressed up as ghosts. The one I painted was my favourite picture that we took. I didn't just copy the picture though, I also added in some symbols that represent our friendship. The books are there because we met each other in English class. On the window ledge there are air rifle pellets because we do marksmanship together in school. My goal for this painting was to symbolize me and my friends' friendship. I think I was able to get this across with the small symbols that only we would understand. Overall, I like this painting. I think I was able to get my idea across well. If I were to do it again I think I would try to give myself more time and I would make the ghost on the left lighter, because I think it's too dark. I would also add more detail to the background. I think I will take this into consideration in the future when working with different values of one color.

Seeds Of Persephone
This is a painting of microphotography of a pomegranate. I used different values of red acrylic paint to make the pomegranate seeds and peels. Then I used lighter colors for the parts behind the seeds. I also used different blending techniques for the seeds. I decided to paint a pomegranate for two reasons. The first was the main symbolism that is fertility, abundance, marriage, and eternal life. The second reason was for its importance in Greek mythology, in the story of Persephone. I love that story, and I thought it would be interesting to paint a pomegranate to represent it. My goal was to paint a microphotography of a pomegranate, and I think I reached that goal. From this piece, I was able to practice blending and highlighting. It also helped show me how to color match when looking at my reference. Overall, I really like this piece and I think it works as a good symbolism for Greek mythology, fertility, and marriage.
The Beautiful Swan
For this art piece I decided to paint on a hand mirror. On the back of the mirror I painted cherry blossoms and two swans in a pond. On the front, I painted more cherry blossoms at the top. I used acrylic paint, and I used mod podge to coat it at the end. The main technique that I used was layering paint to blend it and add depth. I decided to paint this to represent beauty. Mirrors itself represent purity, honesty, reflection and beauty. I also wanted it to be on a mirror because whoever looks in it, will be able to see their beauty. The cherry blossoms are there to represent feminine beauty. I also love cherry blossoms, and they remind me of my best friend from Canada, because of inside jokes and stories that we have together. The swans are there to represent beauty, poetry, and music. Swans also mean a lot to me because of the fact that swans choose a partner for life. I want that in life and love that fact, so that's why there are two swans, and they make a heart with their necks. My goal for this piece was to show beauty through painting, and I think I achieved that goal. I think if I were to change anything I'd give more detail to the water. If I were to ever do this project again in the future, I would sand down the plastic so the paint sticks better, and I would use a different top coat. Overall I think this painting is really pretty and I'm proud of it.
Rats Let Loose
For this art piece, I painted two rats in a field, walking from a colored world into a black and white world. There is a rectangle in the middle, that the rats are coming out of. In the box, the sky is red, and the grass is dying. Outside of the box, where the rats are going, is all in black and white, with dandelions. Inside the box and the rats, are made from watercolor paint. The outside, that is in black and white, is in pen. I started by sketching out the rats and background, then I painted the watercolor background in the box. After that, I painted the rats in watercolor. Finally, I outlined the background outside of the box with a pen. A technique that I used for the watercolor was blotting. A technique that I used for the pen was hatching for the shading on the grass and leaves. Another technique that I used with a pen was stippling for the inside of the dandelion.
There are multiple reasons why I made this painting. The first is why I chose to paint rats. One of the reasons is that I feel like rats are usually seen as gross, dirty, negative, and they are usually seen as bad, but they also symbolize adaptability, resourcefulness, survival, and intelligence. I love the duality of it because I feel like it shows that everything has two sides, and it also shows that people shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. The other reason that I decided to paint rats is because my best friend and I have had an inside joke about rats for years now, so rats symbolize our friendship a lot. The symbolism for the rest of the painting is mental health. I wanted to be able to show how panic attacks can feel through painting. I chose to make the sky on the inside of the box red because red is seen as loud, angry, stressed, and I feel like it's a good way to show how it feels during a panic attack. The red kind of takes over and kills everything else, like the grass in the painting. In the paining the rats are walking out of that red world into black and white. I did this because a lot of the time, after a panic attack, you go from feeling way too much and it being very loud, to feeling nothing at all. I feel like the black and white represents this well. I also chose to put dandelions in the black and white part because they are a symbol of hope. This can show that there is still hope after the black and white numbness.
My goal was to paint realistic rats and symbolize mental health and how panic attacks feel. I think I was able to do this, and I really like this painting. I learned different techniques in watercolor and drawing in pen; this will influence a lot of my paintings in the future
Burnt Forest

This painting is of a dragon over a burnt forest. To make this I started by painting the background with watercolor. Then I painted a dragon in the sky. For the wings of the dragon and the burnt forest at the bottom I used paint blowing. To do this I put water color or ink and blew on it with a straw.
Pond
This painting is called “pond” I made it by using paper marbling. To do paper marbling you put ink in the paper marbling base. You move around the ink to make a pattern and then put transfer it to the paper by placing the paper on the ink. The painting that I made was and abstract pond with lily pads and flowers in it.
Drogon
​This painting is called “Drogon”. I made it because I’ve recently been really into game of thrones, and I love Drogon the dragon from the show. To make this I did paint pouring. To do this I layered paint mixed with glue and mixed the white paint with silicone. Then I poured it on the canvas. The silicon made cells in the white paint. After this dried I drew the dragon and outlined it in black pen.
Fallen Angel
This painting is called angel. It is a painting of an angel holding the world in her wings, but it’s heavy so she’s fallen. I made this by blowing bubbles. I mixed soap with ink and blew the bubbles into the paper. Then over top I painted an angel.
Butterflies In My Stomach
This art piece is named “Butterflies in my Stomach”. I made this to represent the feeling of having butterfly’s in your stomach. I made is using smoke painting. To do this you put a candle close to the canvas and use the soot to paint. I made a skeleton with this. Then I painted butterfly’s near the ribcage.
Medusa's Story
This art piece is titled "Medusa's Story”. For this painting I painted medusa, but her hard and the background are cubism. It's made with acrylic paints. The main technique that I used was a gradient in parts of the background. This piece symbolizes sexual assault. Medusa's story has a lot to do with SA, so that's why I chose to paint her. The snakes on her head are different colors to show that sexual assault can come in many different forms and its not always black and white. It can be unique to each person. I really like this piece and I plan to use cubism in more of my paintings.
